Unlock The Guitar is an e-book based guitar tuition method which promises to teach you the secrets of playing guitar and have you playing your favourite songs within 48 hours. This is clearly an exaggeration for a poor quality course comprising of only 1 main lesson book and a few short bonus e-books.
We don't agree with Unlock The Guitar's claim that it will teach you to play in a weekend; no guitar course can promise this. Even if you were locked in a room with Eric Clapton, Slash and Jimi Hendrix you would not come out as a proficient guitarist after 48 hours! Learning the guitar takes time and effort and it seems this course is trying to make a quick buck by pretending it doesn't.
The course is based around 8 pretty short lessons packaged up into an e-book - granted there are some decent quality images and sound samples, but not enough to teach you to play properly. The book will take you through the very basics and teach you to play a few chords, but for the $49.95 price tag we would expect a bit more. You do get a few of extras in the form of a song book, chord chart, chord sound files and a guide to singing, however none of them are particularly inspiring. The guide to singing is something many courses don't offer, but it's never going to train you to sing like a pro.
Given the hefty price tag for such a small bundle of materials we would recommend many other courses above Unlock The Guitar. It will teach you the very basics, but no better than another course costing $10 would so we don't really see how the price tag is justified. The bonus extras add a bit of extra value, but they are nothing special. Take a look at some other courses we have reviewed in this category before you consider this one.
